Headed to the beach and don’t want your cash stolen? Grab an old Chap Stick or other lip balm container and remove what’s left inside (including the inside portion of the twist up mechanism). Take all the cash you’ll need for frozen, chocolate-covered bananas, roll into a cylinder with a diameter smaller than the tube and stash that cash! Depending on your currency of choice and the brand of lip balm, you may need to fold the cash lengthwise before rolling to get the right fit (just make sure you leave enough cash sticking up above the top of the tube that you can still grab the bills easily). Don’t forget about your stash and try to use it on your lips though, cash residue has a low SPF!
Vanilla or Essential Oil to Freshen Bathroom Air When It’s Most Needed
The bathroom doesn’t have to smell unpleasant. Adding a couple drops of vanilla or your favorite essential oil to your toilet paper tube can freshen bathroom air when it’s most needed, if you know what we’re saying. Just don’t start getting any ideas about baking cookies in the bathroom to keep things smelling fresh and appealing!
How to Use an Egg Slicer to Efficiently Slice Mushrooms
My family likes to shop at Trader Joe’s. We also like to buy organic whenever feasible. For whatever reason, our Trader Joe’s never carries pre-sliced organic mushrooms. So, it’s either buy conventionally-grown with no prep time, or buy organic and spend an eternity slicing mushrooms by hand. Then, one day it dawned on me that our old egg slicer might do a brisk job of slicing the ‘shrooms. Sure enough, the egg slicer made quick work of the mushroom slicing, and it made for much more consistent slices than the old-fashioned way by hand.
Stripped Screw Hack
Use a rubber band for this stripped screw hack, it really works! If you are unable to unscrew a stripped screw put a rubber band between screw and screw driver. That’s all it takes.
Coffee Filter Shoe Freshener
Use this coffee filter shoe freshener hack to keep your shoes nice and fresh. Fill a coffee filter with baking soda, tie shut with twine. You can also put a couple drops of essential oil to bring it up a notch. Put the little baking soda filled sachets in your shoes overnight to absorb odors.
Copper Curtain Rods
I saved a lot of money on curtain rods by using copper pipes, L brackets, electrical hardware to hold the rods. I spray painted the hardware with copper paint. I bought 2″ rings with clips from Amazon and bought curtain material then cut it and hemmed all the way around.
